Mataram Kingdom Battles on The Chess Board

If you really chess lover, you must be familiar with a square board of eight rows and eight colums.

Chess is very famous board games played between two player. At the start, each player controls sixteen pieces: one king, one queen, two rooks, two knights, two bishops, and eight pawns.

When I went to Yogyakarta’s Art Festival I found an unique chess that represent of Mataram’s Kingdom. Like ordinary chess, there is sixteen piece but in different form. The Pieces are represent of Mataram’s Kingdom (Fyi, Mataram’s Kingdom is ancient kingdom in Central Java, between the 8th and 10th centuries AD)

Here’s the picture:

This chess are made by Jopajapu, a Liping Art Industry located in Solo, Central Java.

Chess version mataram’s kingdom tell us about the battle of Mataram’s Kingdom. Not like other chess that have similar pawns, we can see difference form between one pawn an another .

Look at this picture below: seems like there are battle between two soldiers …ups, I mean two pawns on the board :)
